Summary: Provides care to critically ill/injured patients, based on knowledge of the principles and practices of pre-hospital care under the ! auspices of the HealthNet Medical Director and West Virginia University Hospitals, Inc. The flight medic will work in collaboration with the Flight Nurse to provide care during air medical transport. Provides assistance to ED and Med Com. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1.0 Assists in direct patient care by performing assessment of environmental hazards and access to patients in the pre-hospital setting, physical assessment, advanced life support interventions and condition monitoring. 1.1 Provides accurate physical assessment and appropriate interventions for specific patient condition. 1.2 Functions within approved flight medical and operational guidelines as well as State EMS guidelines. 1.3 Assists in pre-hospital rescue/extrication as necessary. 2.0 Effectively communicates with other staff, hospital departments, EMS personnel and healthcare providers at other facilities and HealthNet bases verbally and throug! h written documentation. 2.1 Provides a written report of pati! ent history, physical and interventions performed. 2.2 Maintains clear, precise and professional radio communications. 2.3 Completes patient follow-up activities. 2.4 Demonstrates appropriate interpersonal skills with other healthcare team members and the general public in verbal interactions. 2.5 Completes established documentation of flight related activities, (i.e. patient 1 EMS equipment return, billing form and transport certification form). 3.0 Maintains flight equipment. 3.1 Performs routine and monthly checks of flight program equipment and communicates with Biomedical Engineering to assure equipment is in safe operating condition. 3.2 Performs routine restocking of aircraft supplies after each transport and maintains established supply inventory. 4.0 Maintain a clean, sanitary and safe environment to help control infection and to provide for safety of patients, staff, EMS personnel and other healthcare providers. 4.1 Maintains clean aircraft interior ( includes dis! infecting after transport of patients with known or suspected communicable diseases. 4.2 Cleans flight program and EMS equipment in accordance with established HealthNet Infection Control Policy and hospital guidelines. 4.3 Participates in the HealthNet Safety and Operations Procedures Program through presentations to hospital personnel, fire departments, EMS agencies, public safety officials, industrial sites, etc. 4.4 Participates/attends annual department recurrent air crew safety training 4.5 Completes annual health inventory, hearing test, TB and immunization screening. 5.0 Maintains competence in job skills to facilitate the provision of quality patient care. 5.1 Annually completes mandatory clinical and operational competencies as well as maintaining current required certifications established by the hospital and flight program. 5.2 Attends and completes inservices and educational offerings established for the flight medical personnel (relating to new equipment, dise! ase process and current therapies). 5.3 Attends/participates in mandato! ry educational and operational meetings. 6.0 Assists with activities in the ED as appropriate. Activities include, but may not be limited to, technical assistance with placement of IV lines and obtaining lab specimens, and general assistance such as obtaining vitals, transport of patients, and placement of patients in treatment rooms after nursing triage. Nonessential Functions 7.0 Assists in air medical program operations necessary to assure effective communication and functioning of the program. 7.1 Provides assistance and relief dispatch for Med Com Communicator activities. 7.2 Participates in the hospital Paramedic Preceptor Program. 7.3 Participates in other healthcare promotional activities sponsored by the hospital and/or flight program. 8.0 Other duties as assigned. Position Requirements

  • DOT National Standard Curriculum for Modules 1-6 plus 15 (date 1983) or DOT National Standard Curriculum for EMT-P • Three years as a pre-hospital ALS provider. Previous flight experience preferred. • Possesses and maintains a current West Virginia EMT-P certification in accordance with West Virginia State Office of Emergency Medical Services standards. * Above qualifications may be waived in lieu of significant, relevant experience.
