Standardized Summary of Responsibilities:
Employees have matured to the full point of competency and proficiency.

  • Under general supervision, engage! s in any work of construction, maintenance and repair of transmission and distribution lines. Duties include:
Business-Unit Specific Summary of Responsibilities :
  • Climb and work effectively off poles using lineworker's climbing equipment. Climb and work safely off ladders, raised platforms, and aerial lift trucks.
  • Install, remove and repair residential, commercial and industrial service drops. Install, remove, and repair any energized secondary circuits. Install, remove, repair, or replace residential service drops including meters and entrances.
  • Operate all types of trucks and trailers. Check, service, and make minor repairs and adjustments on motor vehicles and accessory power equipment. Operate all types of power-driven equipment attached or mounted on trucks or trailers.
  • Assist in investigation of no-light and trouble calls on customer service facilities and equipment.
  • Investigate and clear service inter! ruptions for which qualified.
  • Perform meter dial test! s in accordance with standard instructions. Assist in the installation, removal, and maintenance of meters, instrument transformers, and related equipment.
  • Patrol overhead lines to visually check poles, lines, and equipment and accurately report conditions as found.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of service and equipment wiring rules. Demonstrate effective knowledge and use of applicable manuals.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to effectively apply first-aid treatment for stoppage of breathing, shock, burns, and severe bleeding. Demonstrate application of pole top resuscitation.
  • Perform rigging required to handle materials and equipment including the use of hand lines, block and tackle, chains and slings.
  • Demonstrate adequate knowledge of and ability to properly apply protective safety equipment on energized secondary lines and equipment.
  • Install line hardware and protective devices on de-energized equipment of all voltages.!
  • Refuse cutouts and install or remove hot line clamps. Relamp series, multiple and OL light fixtures.
  • Install, remove and repair any de-energized transmission circuits and associated equipment under the direction of a higher rated employee.
  • Install, remove, and repair energized primary circuits and associated equipment when not in close proximity to other energized lines and equipment and when work is not performed in limited quarters.
  • Install, remove, and repair any energized primary circuits and associated equipment with and under direction of a higher rated employee.
  • Install, remove, and maintain single transformers.
  • Phase out and parallel secondary circuits. Phase out and parallel distribution circuits under direction of higher rated employee.
  • Inspect and repair or replace defective insulators, cutouts, disconnects, lightning arresters, fuses, etc., when de-energized or not in close proximity to other energi! zed equipment. Tap or splice line conductors.
  • Qualify for and ! perform non-automatic line switching. Qualify for and perform switching at stations and hold operating tags on street light circuits.
  • Investigate, locate, analyze, and correct faults, and restore service on transmission lines and associated equipment and on any distribution and associated equipment under direction of higher rated employee.
  • Install, remove, repair, and adjust any series and multiple street light fixtures, equipment, and circuits under direction of a higher-rated employee.
  • Install, remove and maintain multiple transformers on an arm, cluster bracket or platform.
  • Investigate, analyze, and locate faults, and restore service on all types of transformers under direction of higher rated employee.
  • Assist in the installation, removal, and maintenance of transformers.
  • Make up and install guys. Assemble and erect simple wood structures.
  • Effectively act as lead man on any jobs for which qualified. Act as sa! fety man for employees working on or in close proximity to energized lines and equipment for which qualified.
  • Determine needs and obtain tools and materials required for routine jobs. Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Operate mobile radio units.
  • Prepare complete and accurate records and reports.
  • Read maps to determine location of all transmission and distribution circuits, substations, switching points, fusing points, and major customer facilities in work area. Read and work from simple prints and sketches.
  • Read watt-hour and indicating demand meters installed on customer premises.
  • Collect past-due electric service accounts and final bills as assigned.
Standardized Summary of Qualifications:
  • Must work safely following safety rules and regulations
  • Must be a Journeyman Lineworker with at least 5 years of hands-on experience with electric utility or a utility lines cons! truction contractor.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid! CDL operator’s License, Class A, for the state of West Virginia.
  • Must possess the ability to safely operate motor vehicles.
  • Must possess skills in pole climbing in distribution and transmission, installing and removing poles, towers, structures, installing and changing transformers.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of principles and operation of transmission and distribution systems.
  • Must have an advanced knowledge in elements of applied electricity including AC and DC circuits.
  • Must demonstrate a questioning attitude to learn, produce results, and develop relationships.
  • Must understand the practices and procedures for clearing and grounding lines and the equipments for the protection of the public, personnel and property.
  • Must know the mechanical and dielectric characteristics and properties of the materials used in making cables and cable joints.
  • Must understand the practices, principles of operation! and the proper application of equipment as prescribed by the company for safety, first aid, and rescue.
  • Must have a basic understanding of National Electric Code and NESC.
  • Must be able to interpret complex prints and specifications.
  • Must be able to perform heavy physical work indoors and outdoors in all seasons.
  • Must prepare legible and accurate reports using paper documents and mobile computer.
Business-Unit Specific Qualifications:
Required Education

High School/GED
