SUMMARY
The Research Assistant supports the data needs of the National Center on Early Childhood Development, Teaching and Learning (NCECDTL). The NCECDTL is comprised of a consortium of organizations operating under a five-year grant aimed at impacting the training and technical assistance needs of Head Start and childcare programs and systems. The NCECDTL works to identify, develop, and promote the implementation of evidence-based practices that are developmentally appropriate, culturally and linguistically responsive, lead to positive child outcomes across early childhood programs, and support strong professional development (PD) systems. The Research Assistant will support NCECDTL evaluation and continuous quality improvement (CQI) efforts by supporting data organization, collection, and cleaning, as well as contributing to program organization.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead data extraction efforts and manage analytics for the Office of Head Start’s learning management system, the Individualized Professional Development (iPD) Portfolio, with support from the Data Team and iPD Team
- Assist with data extraction and manage analytics for the following platforms used to disseminate NCECDTL resources:
- Websites, including Head Start (HS) Early Childhood Learning & Knowledge Center (ECLKC) and Early Educator Central (EEC)
- Social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter
- Texting programs developed by the NCECDTL
- Mobile applications developed by the NCECDTL
- Online peer collaboration portal used by OHS, MyPeers
- Assist with evaluation efforts for NCECDTL TTA events, including survey data management via the online survey distribution platform
- Respond to quick-turnaround requests for specific data sets, including basic descriptive analyses (summary figures and averages)
- Support the Senior Data Scientist in maintaining DTL databases and organizational trackers for TTA efforts
- Collaborate with the Data Team to create data products, including biannual reports, meeting reports, and data reports for flagship DTL events
- Participate in regular full team and Data Team meetings, iPD Team Meetings, as well as ad hoc meetings
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Experience or education in research and/or data analytics work
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience running descriptive statistics in Excel
- Ability to create data visualizations for non-research audiences using tools such as Excel
- Experience with various analytics, including Google Analytics, application analytics, and learning management system analytics
- Experience or strong interest in using data for continuous quality improvement (CQI)
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team structure
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with diverse audiences
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
- Ability to be flexible in responding to emerging data needs

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in a research-focused field, OR associate degree in a research-focused field, and at least two years of real-world experience conducting data analytics work.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
This position's salary is estimated to be mid $50,000s to low $70,000s depending on experience, geo-location, budget, and other comparable and similarly scoped internal positions. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is frequently required to use finger dexterity and sufficient hand dexterity to use a computer keyboard and be capable of reading a computer screen. Also, they may need to remain seated for extended periods, can perform repetitive motions, and reach for objects. An employee is frequently required to hold a writing instrument, communicate verbally, and hear well enough to detect nuances and receive detailed information. They may be required to grasp objects, push, and pull objects, bend, stand, walk, squat, or kneel. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for data preparation or analysis, and expansive reading. May need to lift up to 30 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The work conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounter while performing this job. Depending on work location, the incumbent will typically work indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office, with a mixture of natural, incandescent, and fluorescent light with low to moderate noise levels or be subject to working conditions conducive to a home environment. When travel is expected, the incumbent will be exposed to outside environmental conditions during those times.
