The Programs Manager for the centers located at both USO Boston locations (in Downtown Boston and Bedford, MA) creates lifelong memories for service members and families by delivering high caliber programs and activities through the USO Center and in the
local community. Whether it is something offered routinely at the USO Center or a special event, the Programs Manager delivers on the USO mission every day.

Responsibilities/Duties

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE THE PROGRAMS MANAGER?

You need to have a talent for orchestrating pro! grams â€" from idea through execution. That means you are crea! tive, you are a planner, and you never miss a detail.

You need to represent the USO in the community. Whether asking for financial support, working with military leadership on a program, or meeting with a vendor, you are the USO. That means you reflect our core values and make us proud.

You are a great communicator. This is key for directing your volunteers, writing an event communication, or updating the website about upcoming activities.

Like any USO manager, you need to demonstrate integrity and trust; respect and appreciation of colleagues; a drive for results; focus on the USO customer experience; outstanding decision-making capabilities; ability to build an effective team; and managerial
courage.

KEY PRIORITIES INCLUDE:
Recruit, train, credential and supervise volunteer staff. Develop a team focused on delivering outstanding customer service, and hold the team accountable to standards.

Manage the planning, ex! ecution and evaluation of all USO programs. This includes budget oversight, logistics, marketing and PR, and resource development.

Conduct outreach to secure resources for the USO, both financial and gifts-in-kind.

Produce program communications and marketing/advertising using print, web and social media.

Report on all program metrics, and use them to identify and implement on-going improvements or enhancements.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

3 years + work experience, including managing programs and events for medium to large audiences. Demonstrated ability to create and lead high-performing teams. Relevant experience in a not-for-profit, multicultural and/or global organization preferred.

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to maintain clear, frequent communication with USO, military and civilian leadership.

Ability to perform basic ac! counting functions including cash handling and budget reconciliation.
Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communications as well as knowledge of various software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Twitter and Facebook.

Demonstrated initiative/self-motivation, attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Willingness and ability to work non-standard hours (evenings, holidays and weekends) as needed.

Must be able to maintain a flexible work schedule.

Must have reliable transportation.

Must be a strong advocate of the USO’s mission to lift the spirits of US troops and their families.

This position is located in Downtown Boston and Bedford, MA locations. Preference will be given to local candidates within commuting distance to both locations.
