Department of Revenue/ State Tax Department/ Tax-Research Division, Kanawha Co. - Performs complex economic and tax related research work within the state tax departmen t under the general supervision of the Director of the Research and Development Division. Writes and executes computer programs to prepare statistical summaries of various tax and economic variables. Writes and executes computer programs to simulate multiple step tax calculations to provide analysis of changes in selected components of the calculation. Writes and executes computer programs to prepare both regular statistical summaries and ad-hoc statistical compilations. Analyzes tax and economic data using computer programming or software packages. Maintains databases of information on various state and national data. Analyzes proposed and enacted federal and state legislation and determines the revenue impact. Develops forecasts of state revenue components. Writes narratives of selected tax and economic components for inclusion in division and department reports and publications. May be responsible for and may provide oversight of more difficult projects. Compiles informat ion from subordinates into final division and department reports. May function in a lead or supervisory capacity. May assign and review work of subordinates. May train subordinates. Applicants are subject to an extensive background check. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training: A Master's degree from an accredited university in public or business administration, economics, statistics, mathematics, public policy, finance, operations research, regional planning, urban studies, geology, mining engineering, petroleum land management, computer science, industrial engineering or system analysis or a closely related field.
Substitution: Undergraduate degree in any of above disciplines plus two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in mineral and/or economic research and analysis may substitute for the required training.
Experienc e: Three years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in mineral and/or economic research and analysis.
Substitution: Two years of full-time employment in the State Tax Division in a related area of assignment may be substituted for the experience requirement.
