Job Title: Program Coordinator / Job Developer

Position Reports to: Program Manager and Executive Director

Overall Function: The Program Coordinator / Job Develo per is a full time regular position responsible for planning, organizing and executing all aspects of the Step Up for Women Construction Pre-Apprenticeship training program including managing the day-to-day operations of the office, recruiting participants, coordinating the course, community outreach, employer outreach, participant job placement and reporting to the headquarter office. This position is stationed at a satellite site in Wheeling or Charleston, WV.

Organization Description

West Virginia Women Work, a statewide 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization founded in 2000, supports and advocates for the education, employment and economic equity for all women. Seventeen years ago WVWW began offering a tuition free skilled trades training program, Step Up for Women, at our headquarter office in Morgantown. Today we have expanded to three geographically divergent training sites across the state in Morgantown, Charleston and Huntington. Our sites are manned by a staf f with over 25 years of combined experience specializing in placing women in nontraditional occupations and we’re the only organization in the state recognized by the Dept. of Labor to offer “Quality PreApprenticeship Training Programs.” The organization is now expanding their pre-apprenticeship model to new regions of WV. Primary Responsibilities

Establish teachers, speakers, and supplemental training for students

ï‚· Recruit, Hire, Train, Manage, and Dismiss Skilled Trades Instructors

ï‚· Coordinate hands-on components of training program

ï‚· Schedule 10 hour OSHA training

ï‚· Establish agreement with local gym for strength and endurance training

ï‚· Schedule speakers including: apprenticeship representatives, women working in the trades, contractors, and employers

ï‚· If necessary, hire instructors to cover additional topics including basic math review Recruit training p rogram participants

ï‚· Update printed and electronic promotional materials on an ongoing basis

ï‚· Visit local social services agencies and Workforce offices and make personal contacts with case workers

ï‚· Presentations to service providers and attend career fairs

ï‚· Distribute fliers and brochures at social service agencies and high traffic areas

ï‚· Advertise in local papers

ï‚· Interview women applying for program

ï‚· Select most appropriate candidates for program Teach mandatory soft skill topics in the classroom for a minimum of 44 hours per course

ï‚· Communication skills with classmates and employers

ï‚· How to make an effective phone call

ï‚· Resume writing â€" non traditional

ï‚· Interviewing

ï‚· Job Hunting Tactics

ï‚· Graduation requirements

ï‚· Budgeting

ï‚· Registered Apprenticeships and Unions

ï‚· Job Shadowing

ï‚· Field trip to commercial construction job s ite

ï‚· Gathering important documents

ï‚· Application practice

ï‚· Class time for students to contact employers and submit applications

Job Development

ï‚· Must become familiar with the skilled trades occupations, how to train for them and how to get a job in the construction field

ï‚· Establish job-shadowing opportunities for students

ï‚· Network with area employers to open the doors for the participants to gain employment

ï‚· Attend local Home Builders Association meetings

ï‚· Cold call, write letters to area contractors

ï‚· Walk onto construction sites to talk with foremen and owners

ï‚· Work individually with students throughout class and after graduation to help them in their job search, refer to contacts, and offer encouragement and advice

ï‚· Maintain contact with both students and employers to help facilitate any problems that arise and maintain a working relationship

Report to Headquarter Office

ï‚· Maintain a comprehensive and clear filing system of program activities and participant information in order to quickly supply requested information

ï‚· Submit reports via mail and email on a monthly basis

ï‚· Regularly update and submit program statistical information

ï‚· Complete the End of Class Reporting Packet after the completion of every course

Financial Management

ï‚· Secure program debit card and check book(s) in a locked location

ï‚· Pay vendors via debit card or check according to the approved program budget

ï‚· Purchase program, training, and office materials according to the approved program budget

ï‚· Collect a proof of payment for every transaction

ï‚· Submit original receipts and transaction report to the Headquarter office on a regular bases

Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

ï‚· Ability to effectively solve problems and carry out responsibilities under general sup ervision

ï‚· Possess excellent organization skill, initiative and follow through

ï‚· Be detail oriented, able to set priorities, and meet deadlines

ï‚· Proficient knowledge of modern office equipment and technology

ï‚· Proficient in office software including: Word, Excel, Publisher, Access and social media use

ï‚· Excellent communication, organizational, and writing skills. Ability to exercise discretion in acquiring and disseminating confidential and proprietary information.

ï‚· Ability to travel throughout the region and, on rare occasions, stay out of town overnight

ï‚· Passion for promoting and supporting self-sufficiency and economic empowerment among women

Job Type: Permanent - Full Time with occasional evening and weekend hours

Hourly Pay: $15 hour plus health and retirement after probation period

Job Location: Charleston, WV

Required education: None

Required experience: Construction / Trades work experience preferred, not required

Required licenses: Driver's License
