KEY REQUIREMENTS

You will be subject to a background/suitability investigation.

DUTIES:
Employee will be assigned to th! e Biomedical Section, Facility Management Service, VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, WV, repairing and maintaining electronic equipment and systems belonging to a hospital environment; and modifying or developing units or electronic devices in support of complex electronic systems, and testing and maintaining equipment. Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:

Determines whether existing test equipment can be utilized to meet specific testing requirements, or whether modifications are necessary; analyzes technical equipment data to determine feasibility of modifying existing equipment; works with shop personnel in construction of interface devices, adapters; and conducts tests of devices, making necessary adjustments, to ensure testing requirements are met.

Evaluates new equipment requests for compatibility with existing systems, space, and utilities; determines the range and quantity of parts required in support of maintenance requirements f! or electronic equipment; and conducts incoming inspections.

De! velops technical specifications for procurement service contracts for maintenance of electronic parts provided in contractor listings; and examines equipment in the hospital areas to determine design, testing capability, and the operational characteristics to determine the range and quantity of parts required to support the equipment.

Researches technical brochures and contractor supplied data to determine the requirements for parts and specialized test equipment.

Serves as Contracting Officer Technical Representative (COTR) for service maintenance contract and for repair and maintenance of electronic equipment/medical equipment; and ensures contractor work is in compliance with contract specifications.

Has responsibility for comprehensive technical support of complex electronic systems (i.e., audio/visual, security systems, nurse call, communications equipment, pneumatic tube system, etc.).

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am -! 4:30pm.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Applicants must possess one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skill,and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related t! o the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must hav! e been equivalent to at least the GS-8 level in the Federal service. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment,or similar functions; or Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and prin! ciples of a variety of electronic systems or equipment.

Combination of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements.

You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position:

Knowledge of the theory of electronics, including analog, digital, microprocessor, computer hardware/software, and computer networking.

Knowledge of electronic equipment assembly, installation, operation, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration.
Ability to utilize computers, operating systems and networking, ! (i.e., Microsoft Office and Microsoft operating systems).

Skill in applying theoretical and practical knowledge of electronics and electricity to provide comprehensive technical support of equipment and complex systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The position involves walking, sitting, crawling, kneeling, and standing. Also requires lifting of objects up to 40 pounds and occasionally lifting of heavier objects. May be required to work on equipment at remote satellite clinics.
