Job Description:
SSAI is seeking a junior software programmer for support to the Atmospheric Science Data Center (ASDC). The successful candidate will provide programming support to the ASDC Software Engineering Branch including analysis of atmospheric data to produce software that can p! rocess, store, and retrieve scientific data. The candidate will work with senior analysts and the atmospheric science community to develop software to subset large amounts of atmospheric data for users. The candidate will assist in preparing project plans, reports, and documentation for software development efforts, as well as design presentations to demonstrate the realm of possibilities for atmospheric data analysis and applicability with ASDC data products. This is an entry junior level position suitable for recent college graduates or early career professionals.
Required Qualifications:
+Must be a US citizen.
+BS degree in Computer Science, Atmospheric Science, or closely related field
+Experience in code development supporting atmospheric research or data processing
+Be able to develop code in 2 or more of the following: JAVA, C++, Perl, Python
+Experience working in 2 or more of the following data formats: HDF4/HDF5/HDFEOS/Ne! tCDF
+Experience designing, normalizing, optimizing, and p! opulating Relational Database Management Systems - RDBMS (PostGreSQL)
+Ability to maintain and enhance OTS GeoSpatial Services and clients (at least 2 of: GeoServer, ARCServer, OpenJump, PostgreSQL)
+Ability to apply knowledge of PostGIS to design high resolution spatial metadata for archived datasets
+Capable of understand meteorological systems (cloud physics, radiation budget, aerosols, tropospheric chemistry) on multiple scales (global/synoptic scale/mesoscale/microscale) as they apply to the datasets archived at the ASDC DAAC
+Capable of applying practical knowledge of orbital mechanics related to most Earth-Observing Satellites (Sun-Synchronous/Geosynchronous) to prediction and satellite data browse services and clients for archived Earth Science products
+Capable of working both independently and with small teams
+Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Desired Qualifications:
+Coursework/experience in environmen! tal studies, engineering, or atmospheric science
+Knowledge of SVN code management practices
+Ability to design and implement Science Workflow processes (SciFlo/Perl/Python/UNIVA Grid Engine)
+Ability to design/create/maintain interactive web content (HTML/PHP/JavaScript/AJAX/JQuery/Perl)
